Punxsutawney Phil? What kind of a name is that anyway? I mean really: they couldn't have found a groundhog from someplace normal, like, say, Normal? It could be fun to hear prognostications from Normal Norman. That would be worth tuning in for...
Film: We finished watching "Garden State." Tonight, either from your notes (Ha!), from a rewatching of the film (Netflix much?) or from your startlingly good memories, write down some moments from the film worth discussing for their specific mise en scene. Also note: if people cannot clean up after their own snacks, no one will be allowed to eat during class.
E2CP: We discussed the Ambrose Bierce short story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" after reading it in class. Tonight, I'd like you to watch an old "Twilight Zone" video of it online. (See below.) Focus on elements in the film as well as the story that foreshadow the ending.
E3H: We looked at what the English Dept. offers you as courses for next year. Bring your yellow sheets tomorrow with your selections. Remember that registration for Creative Writing is not complete until you have written a 500-word piece on a place you know well and had it accepted; also remember that you cannot register for AP if you did not receive at least an A- in the first semester.
