weekend stuff and angry raisins project

E3H, focus for small group Monday discussion is: SD's statements about Ireland (220), SD's parents and religion (259-265), SD's reasons for leaving (268-269), SD's final statements (26-27 April).

Drama: "Bring in" an unusual/interesting/entertaining persona you observe this weekend.

So, E2H, here is the Grapes of Wrath Project.

Your job is to find a scene, a chapter, or a section (or sections) of the book that uncovers a significant theme or concept that Steinbeck is getting across. Using some creative means, re-imagine it. Maybe you could revisit it as a short video. Maybe you could turn it into a musical. Maybe you could create a series of dioramas. Maybe you could make Rosasharn's lost baby book. Whatever you choose, make sure that the point is clear, the specific theme(s) you are discussing are illustrated well, and the whole project is enjoyable.

This is an individual project that will likely require you to help each other; however, certain kinds of projects might be done in pairs if you present sufficient explanation. Show me why you need a partner, and we'll discuss it.

Following are some examples of projects from other places that are already online. These do not derive from this same assignment, and therefore are not totally models for you. The best of them as a model is the claymation one, as it actually does what I am asking here. The book/movie review is also excellent.

Here is an excellent example of a project that does everything I am asking for, using basic claymation and a Star Wars theme:

Here is a project that reviews the book/movie based on today's economy:

Here is a project that retells the story as a rap. If it came with some sense of exploring a theme, it might work:

Here is one that retells much of the story but uses images from history throughout; refocus it a bit so a central message becomes clear and it would be a wonderful project for this assignment:

And here is one that uses silent film techniques to tell the tale. It's occasionally rather silly, but again, if it explored a theme, it could work:
